An off-market opportunity is one where the property is not actively for sale. This means the property is not currently being advertised with an estate agent or listed on a property portal such as Rightmove or Zoopla.
There can a few a reasons why property owners take this option. Sometimes owners don't want to market their property publicly, for example a landlord who might not want to distress their current tenants. Some owners might want a private sale for convenience, as private sales are often conducted more rapidly than traditional ones, particularly if a buyer is already lined up. This means the seller can avoid going through the rigmarole of having the property listed or having to arrange for photographs and video walkthroughs of the property. Other times, the owner could not currently intend to sell their property, but might still be receptive to offers. Off-market buyers are primarily investors, who are usually savvy when it comes to the process of purchasing a property. As such, there are generally fewer hoops to jump through during the entire sales process.
